Fragrance Review: Marc Jacobs – Daisy

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey

Over 10 years since its release (in 2007), a cute bottle with big plastic flowers on top still crowns Marc Jacobs’ fragrance counters – with an impressive garden of flankers under its petals. It’s Daisy, a modern classic and major staple of the fruity-floral genre – and it smells just as cheerful as it looks!

Fragrance Review: Chanel – La Pausa (EdP)

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

La Pausa was the second fragrance I’ve tried from Chanel’s Les Exclusifs line. Like stunning aldehydic floral Nº22 reminded me of Nº5, right from the opening, La Pausa bloomed in a deep, lush iris accord that I could immediately relate to another Chanel fragrance – well, two, to be precise. The 1970’s classic Nº19, and its modern, powdery flanker, Nº19 Poudré.

Fragrance Review: Goutal – La Violette

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Violet is a curious, unique floral. It smells mostly sweet and powdery, but it also has medicinal, green and dewy tones. From personal experience, I’d call it an acquired taste, but if there’s a fragrance that might help you “get” this note in all its quaint prettyness… that would be Goutal La Violette.

Fluffy Fragrances

We often associate scents with other impressions, such as colour, temperature, place, mood… and, in spite of their ethereal nature, texture!

Today, we’ll look at fluffy fragrances! I consider perfumes “fluffy” when they feel plush yet lightweight, cosy & clean, with a comforting and gentle character. They can go from powdery, to musky, to sweet, but never in a sharp way – softness is key! “Fluffyness” is often achieved by notes such as white musk, orris, iris, rice, vanilla, tonka, violet, almond…

Here are some of my suggestions for fluffy fragrances! As always, similar scents are listed close, so if you like a perfume, check out its “neighbours”. Titles are also linked to my full review, when avaliable!

Fragrance Review: Dolce&Gabbana – The Only One Intense

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Curiously, The Only One Intense doesn’t really strike me as an intense version of The Only One. Like its powdery-sweet predecessor bares no resemblance to ambery vanilla-floral The One, The Only One Intense is so different from its pillar it almost might have been launched under its own name (The Next One? The Dark One? – uh, that would sound more like a villain than a perfume)… Anyway.

Still, this is surely better than yawning at another near-identical flanker. The Only One Intense does have the plus of feeling unique(ish), and standing in Dolce&Gabbana’s lineup with its own character.

On the other hand… I’m not really swooning over it, myself.
